The canotier was created in 1880. It was typical of the gondoliers of Venice, who loved to decorate with a long ribbon (nastro doppio), to distinguish it from the naval officers. It is also a symbol of the college of Oxford. In the late nineteenth century, the hat became fashionable in France, for the exaltation of navigation "du canotaje", hence its name. Alongside Italians immigrants became fashionable in America, where he earned his heyday in the first half of the twentieth century.
I used to wear in summer for boaters and sportsmen , using both women and men , setting a high social status .
Over time , the boater was used by all social classes .
Coco Chanel chose the boater as a symbol of the new era , getting impose the hat as a symbol of the new woman.
Well , this season is back stronger than ever and I have decided to use it to attend a ceremony I have had to return from vacation.
The undisputed star of my outfit is my Canotier of MIBUH. My outfit is simple: nude cocktail dress , pink shoes and mini purse enriched with pearls.
As complements: vintaje family jewels and my omega gold watch, a jewel inherited from my godmother .
Whenever I wear headdresses or hats , I like to look very simple to highlight and hat not see very ornate set.
What do you think ?
many kisses
